Once your fibre network is fully operational, UTEL’s centralised OTDR tester can be used to continuously monitor the fibre network, as well as providing testing on demand. Our testing system can be used to monitor backhaul, feeder fibres, point-to-point and the Passive Optical Network (PON). Among other benefits, continuous fibre monitoring makes it easier to detect and locate potential issues in real-time before they become major problems, reducing downtime and ensuring that your fibre network's overall network performance meets your customers’ expectations. This is particularly useful when it comes to ensuring that you meet service level agreements (SLA) with high-value customers.
Our Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) system can also be configured to generate regular monitoring reports, so that you can identify patterns and trends in your network’s performance as part of a pro-active maintenance policy.
Fibre network monitoring can be continuous (24x7) or scheduled (e.g. overnight). You can also set optical performance thresholds, so the system will automatically warn you if a performance specification threshold is in danger of being breached.
Our OTDR fibre tester is self-calibrating and uses the ITU standard 1650nm test signal. This uses Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), so it can be used in a live/lit network and does not interfere with live data and traffic.
